Liberty County Deputy Constable Busted for Public Intoxication and Unlawful Carrying of Weapon in College Station

Usually, lawmen and women can be counted on for keeping the public safe from various crimes like those involving alcohol and other public misdeeds. However, for Jared Oliver, police had to protect us from him. The reserve deputy constable from Liberty County decided to tie one on at a bar in Northgate early Saturday morning.

According to police reports, Oliver was scene flashing his badge, telling folks he was an undercover officer and even sharing that he had a loaded gun on him. Officers were able to locate Oliver at a drinking booth with a woman. When asked if he had a gun, he responded with, “I do! I am a police officer!” He was handcuffed, despite his pleas against being placed in handcuffs. It was at this time that police saw a handgun near his waist and also found a “silver star law enforcement badge” after Oliver admitted that he worked in Liberty County Pct. 4. The officers removed the gun, which had 15 live rounds in the magazine and one live round in the firing chamber.

According to police, after taking Oliver outside, they noticed he was “extremely intoxicated.” Oliver told police he couldn’t remember when he started drinking or how many drinks he had. He then added that a man, who claimed to be in a gang, approached him that night, telling him his gang says he’s an undercover cop, but he wasn’t going to tell them.

He explained that is why he went to the bar employee, telling them what just happened and that he was a cop who had a gun on him.

The officers asked Oliver if he thought it was a good idea to go into a bar with a gun and drink. He allegedly told them, “I know my tolerance, so I would say no, but I know that I should probably say yes.” Police attempted a field sobriety test; however, Oliver refused.

As the investigation continued, multiple employees told police that Oliver had allegedly flashed his badge at them, telling them he was a cop. Even Oliver’s wife admitted to police that her husband had consumed three or four mixed drinks and two shots since 9 p.m. Friday.

Out of fear, Oliver would continue to “spread alarm amongst bar staff or even bar patrons” about having a loaded gun while intoxicated, he was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication. He was also charged with Unlawful Carry of a Weapon since he was not on his own property nor had consent from the property owner to have a gun.

Online records with Liberty County show that Oliver was deputized with the Liberty County Pct. 4 Constable’s office as a reserve deputy constable in April of this year.

He was released the same day as the arrest.
